This is a tree near the entrance to the Château on the river which during WWII separated free France from occupied France. Once in the grounds, those escaping the German soldiers only had to outrun the soldiers over the main hall, which effectively is a bridge over the river, in order to be free. This misty day is the second time I have visited the château, but just seeing this reminds me of how lucky we are to be able to live as peacefully as we do today - we may still have horrific wars and other things menacing human life all over the planet, but we can hope to overcome it.
